Quick Definition
An open-source tool by Google for auditing web page quality including performance, accessibility, and SEO.
Full Explanation
Lighthouse is an open-source, automated tool developed by Google for improving web page quality. It audits performance, accessibility, progressive web apps, SEO, and best practices. Lighthouse can be run in Chrome DevTools, as a Chrome extension, from the command line, or as a Node module. The performance score (0-100) is a weighted combination of metrics including FCP, LCP, TBT, CLS, and Speed Index. Lighthouse also powers Google PageSpeed Insights. While Lighthouse scores are useful for development, field data from Chrome User Experience Report (CrUX) is what Google uses for ranking signals.
